Monograph on Colorants Used in Cosmetics
The SCC currently has nine different monographs available on various cosmetic topics. The latest monograph is“Colorants Used in the Cosmetics Industry.”
The purpose of this monograph is to give the reader a general idea and overview of the basic concepts and principles of color usage in the cosmetics industry. Basic knowledge along with hands-on experience will show how color can be understood and used successfully in cosmetic products to develop shades as well as adjust and modify shades using cosmetically acceptable colorants. It is hoped that this will be a guide for the shade matcher, whether it is a new person coming into the industry or a well seasoned color matcher, or even formulators who need an easy reference to brush up on their color skills, according to SCC. Colorants Used in the Cosmetics Industry is $25.

2010 Young Scientist Award Nominations Due July 11
In 1993, the SCC initiated a program to recognize the achievements of the younger scientists working in the cosmetic industry called the Young Scientist Award. In addition to recognizing the achievements of younger scientists, it also gives the respective companies the opportunity to encourage professionalism in their employees.
This award can be presented annually to one scientist from each cosmetic manufacturer, supplier, or other organization in the cosmetics and personal products industries. The selective criteria are left to the judgment of the respective companies. The recipient must be a member or national affiliate in good standing of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists for at least one year and shall have been employed in the industry for no more than 10 years.
The presentation is made annually during the fourth quarter at a Chapter meeting or by the individual company at a private presentation.
The deadline for nominations is July 11.
