Thinking about some cosmetic treatments in the new year? You may want to wait until after you get vaccinated for COVID-19.
A US Food and Drug Administration advisory committee has determined that people with cosmetic facial fillers could experience swelling and inflammation when vaccinated with Moderna's COVID-19 treatment. The FDA committee determined that several trial participants with fillers experienced swelling and inflammation after receiving shots with the Moderna vaccine.
"Your immune system which causes inflammation is revved up when you get a vaccine, that's how it's supposed to work," noted Dermatologist Shirley Chi. "So it makes sense that you would see an immune response in certain areas where they see some substance that is not a naturally-occuring substance in your body."
Chi noted, however, that the side effects were easily treated by medical professionals.
