Belcorp now offers virtual try-on with the help of Perfect Corp technology. But that’s not the only high-tech solution used by the company. AI Innovation Labs platform reduced the product development timeline by 20%. Now, Belcorp is trying to improve lab productivity by 60%. In the future, the company hopes to reduce consumer risk evaluation periods by 80% without compromising product safety. For these efforts, Belcorp earned a CIO 100 Award in IT Excellence earlier this year.

In an interview with CIO, Venkat Gopalan, chief digital, data and technology officer, said successful digital transformation involving AI and analytics requires embracing the complexity of digital transformation, following a value-focused strategy; reimaging and reinventing business processes; initiating early impact narratives; and recognizing the importance of talent.

In early 2023, Belcorp beauty products were approved by Cruelty Free International’s Leaping Bunny Program.

Belcorp is big believer in the power of technology. Last year, it formed a partnership with Perfect Corp. to create a personalized online shopping experience. The move integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) that allows customers to select from the thousands of products available through its three brands—Ésika, L’Bel and Cyzone brands. Belcorp said it planned to integrate this technology across Latin America. It had already launched virtual try-on technology in Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Panama.

“Beauty and technology are like a marriage made in heaven. Beauty consumers have adopted new technologies such as AI and AR much faster than other verticals,” explained Venkat Gopalan, chief technology, data and digital officer of Belcorp. “The needs of our consumers change constantly and it’s more important than ever to provide them with personalized experiences across all touchpoints. Technology plays a very important role by providing the best experience to tomorrow’s beauty consumers.”

This month Belcorp will host its virtual software development competition—Hackathon 3.0, Metaverse Edition.

Belcorp was recognized for the third year in a row with the Distinctive Socially Responsible Company (DSRC), awarded by Peru 2021, a non-profit civil association that promotes sustainable development, and the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (CEMEFI). The award is based on environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects, aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the sustainable development goals (SDG) of the United Nations.

In Colombia, Cyzone brand was named the official makeup brand for the Festival Estéreo Picnic 2022 music festival.

Belcorp is part of Vision 30/30, a packaging initiative in Colombia led by the National Association of Entrepreneurs (ANDI) that aims to establish a model to promote the use of containers and packaging, strengthen the recycling chains already established and explore new alternatives that complement and optimize it.

Belcorp, based in Peru, recently invested in Phlur Inc. The Peruvian beauty company participated in the Austin, TX-based fragrance company’s $7 million Series A funding round, which was led by Symrise Inc. and included existing investor Next Coast Ventures.

“At Belcorp we are convinced that by creating responsible and transparent beauty products we contribute to building a future full of possibilities for all. We believe that companies in the industry have a valuable opportunity to respond to the needs of our consumers and, at the same time, preserve the harmony and beauty of our surroundings. We are excited to take part in Phlur’s future innovations in the world of sustainable fragrances,” said Belcorp CEO Erika Herrero.

The Phlur investment came through Belcorp Ventures, the company’s investment arm, which states its mission is “to support passionate and visionary founders who are radically transforming the beauty industry.” Other companies in the Belcorp Ventures portfolio include Kopari and Proven Skincare.

The Fundación Belcorp, the company’s philanthropic arm, offers programs to help women including “Emprendiendo Avanzamos,” a competitive fund that identifies and finances development projects that strengthen leadership and fosters entrepreneurship in adolescent women.

Érika Herrero, who had been commercial vice president, is the new CEO of Belcorp. She succeeds Eduardo Belmont, who will remain on as chairman of the board.
This year, Belcorp’s L’Bel brand conducted its first National Inspire Tour in the US, making stops in Florida, Texas, New York and Los Angeles.

“Our goal is to empower Hispanic women in the United States, so we have designed the Inspire Program; it is a program of recognition that benefits our beauty advisors and leaders in their L’Bel careers through incentives,” said Adriana Álvarez, national sales director for L’Bel USA.

According to Álvarez, L’Bel is expanding in the US. In a press statement in February, she said, “Last year we achieved significant growth in sales. In Florida we grew 400% over 2016; in New York we grew 200%, and in Texas nearly 60%.”

This spring, Belcorp’s Esika brand had to recall its Perfect Block Kids sunblock after it received reports about dermal irritation.

Belcorp is one of the biggest direct sales companies in Latin America. Its cosmetics and personal care products are sold by 800,000 consultants in 15 countries. Belcorp has approximately 8,500 employees. Sales fell more than 7% last year, but company founder Eduardo Belmont remains one of the world’s richest people, with a fortune estimated at $1.2 billion, according to Forbes.

Belmont, it seems, has created a great corporate culture. Once again, Belcorp made Fortune’s list of 25 Best Global Companies to Work For. Coming in at No. 9 in 2016. The only other company in the household and personal products industry to make the list was SC Johnson, which was ranked No. 20.

Belcorp is a great to work, so says Great Place to Work, a global research and consulting firm that surveys employees and management teams and each year compiles a list of employers who fit that description. This was Belcorp’s second consecutive year on the organization’s list of the 25 World’s Best Multinational Workplaces for 2015; it came in at No. 12.

We know who Belcorp founder Eduardo Belmont favors his March Madness pools. He’s a Tar Heel, a graduate of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill—a school with a basketball team that usually fares better than squads from Harvard Business School and Wharton, where he also spent time in the classroom.

Belcorp remains the biggest beauty company in Peru, but the company, like so many others in The International Top 30, saw its sales fall due to weakening currency. Still, Belcorp is one of the biggest direct sellers in the world, ranking No. 13 on Direct Selling News’ list of the biggest direct sellers on the planet. With sales of $10.8 billion, Amway is No. 1 on the list; that’s far ahead of Avon which had corporate sales of $8.9 billion.

L’Bel’s Orianité was named the best female fragrance in Latin America last year, while Esika’s Suntuosa won the HBA IPDA award for packaging design.

Belcorp has 8,000 employees located in 15 countries. The company’s plant in Tocancipa, Colombia produces more than 600,000 products a day, which is enough to fulfill Belcorp’s needs in most of the world, but products are also manufactured in Chile, Mexico and France.

It didn’t take long for Belcorp, Peru’s biggest beauty company, to have another hit on its hands. Beauty Red, a fragrance that debuted in 2013, won the package design award at HBA Global Expo. Meanwhile, Oh Red by Cyzone, also launched last year, won the Premio Actualidade Cosmetica Award for being considered the best fragrance in Latin America. Oh Red’s scent was created by IFF’s Marion Costero and Napoleão Bastos.

Belcorp calls new Lederm by L’bel, a revolutionary anti-aging treatment based on cellular homeostasis, capable of achieving balance in seven days.

In other news, Belcorp was ranked No. 5 by Great Place to Work Latam 2013 and Eduardo Belmont, the company’s founder and CEO, became the first non-Brazilian to enter the Actualidade Cosmética Hall of Fame (Brazil).

Belcorp once again placed among the ranks of direct sales leaders such as Amway and Avon earlier this year when Direct Selling News recognized it as the 10th largest direct selling company in the world.

“We are thrilled and honored to be a Latin American company ranked for the second year in a row as part of the top 10 largest direct selling companies in the world,” said Eduardo Belmont, founder and chief executive. “This recognition reinforces and validates Belcorp’s mission of empowering women and transforming lives every day through the amazing work, passion and commitment of our beauty advisors to whom we dedicate this distinction.”

Belcorp features a network of more than one million independent distributors operating in 16 countries throughout the Americas. As part of its expansion plans in Brazil, Belcorp plans to invest $200 million in the No. 1 cosmetics market in Latin America by 2015.
In April, the National Diversity Council recognized Belcorp USA general manager Mona Ameli as one of 2013’s Most Powerful and Influential Women in California.

Belcorp is doing a great job of empowering women around the world, but its CEO could use a little help repairing rifts at home.
Eduardo and his brother Fernando founded direct-sales company Yanbal in 1967, but 20 years later they went their separate ways after a disagreement about company strategy. Eduardo went on to found Belcorp and competes head-to-head with his brother, who renamed his company Yanbal International.

Belcorp is on the move. The direct-sales beauty company, one of the largest in Latin America, has 8,000 employees, more than 950,000 beauty consultants and 300-plus suppliers throughout the world. The company proudly notes that 74% of employees are women and 80% of top-level managers are female.

As a result of a major global expansion strategy, the company has established operations and sales in 16 countries in the Americas.

Belcorp’s production centers are located in Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Brazil and France, and its production plant in Tocancipá, Colombia is considered one of the most modern in Latin America, turning out more than 450,000 products every day.

To keep close to the consumer, every year Belcorp holds approximately 1,000 studies involving 100,000 women within the countries it operates.
