In terms of new products, Chattem is rolling out new formats and entering new categories wsith its core brands. For example, new SKUs can be found at Gold Bond, Cortizone-10 and Balmex and Chattem has expanded its high-profile Allegra OTC allergy medication into skin care, with new anti-itch crèmes. In January, the firm sold its Bull Frog line to Sun & Skin Care Research, which considers Bull Frog an “iconic brand” that will “respond positively to our laser focus on the sun care category and our commitment to growing brands through innovation, advertising and best-in-class retail service.” Plus, Bull Frog was the first to provide water-resistant protection and has the leading sunscreen/insect repellency combo brand, (Mosquito Coast) in the mass market. There’s even more OTC medication in Chattem’s stable; in January it  completed the acquisition of Rolaids, an antacid brand.

Part of Sanofi’s $3.9 billion Consumer Health Care business, Chattem’s retail sales topped the $1 billion mark in 2012, according to CEO Zan Guerry.
