Oxnard, CA www.kyliecosmetics.com Sales: $177 million Key personnel: Kylie Jenner, founder Major products: Color cosmetics and skin care Comments: Kylie Jenner sold 51% of her cosmetics company to Coty in a $600 million deal that closed in early 2020. Based on numbers reported in Coty’s financials, it seems that reality TV-star’s beauty business may not have been as successful IRL as once claimed—that or the brand’s sales fell dramatically by the time Coty (No. 5) closed the deal. While it was announced in early 2020 that Cristoph Honnefelder would take over as CEO of Kylie Cosmetics, he departed Coty last month. Coty said Simona Cattaneo, president of Luxury Brands, will oversee the expansion of the Kylie brand now. The brand is expanding; the Kylie Skin line recently launched into Europe with Douglas Group. Coty’s plans for Kylie include full distribution in more than 2,000 doors in 25 countries with the beauty retailer.

Is she or isn’t she? A billionaire that is! Kylie Jenner grew up on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, but she has made a name for herself as a beauty entrepreneur. In fact, earlier this year, Forbes suggested that at 21, Jenner became the youngest self-made billionaire in history following her distribution deal with Ulta. Naysayers howled that Kim’s little sister had plenty of help from her family; to that we say, who doesn’t? After all, how big would Donald Trump’s cardboard box be on the Bowery if his dad hadn’t handed him millions to get started?
Whether or not she’s self-made, Jenner has a solid foundation; in fact, it all starts with the foundation, according to Jenner. The biggest news for this cult favorite celebrity beauty brand is Kylie Skin, a spinoff to Jenner’s Kylie cosmetics that burst into the market with its coveted Lip Kits featuring a duo of lipsticks and matching lipliners.
Kylie Skin is vegan, cruelty free, dermatologist tested and spans from makeup wipes to toners to facial scrubs. On May 22, the brand rolled out a national digital out-of-home (OOH) campaign believed to be the largest single national programmatic digital billboard campaign ever, according to its developer Adomni, reaching audiences in more than 1,100 US cities, including prominent areas such as Times Square and Las Vegas Boulevard.
“It’s always exciting to find new ways to connect with people and I loved the idea of being able to have my Kylie Skin campaign show up on billboards simultaneously across the whole country, to tie in with everything I was doing on social media to promote my skin care launch,” said Jenner in a press statement.
