Clariant To Use Aqdot’s Odor Elimination Technology in Fabric Care and ADD
Clariant utilizes Aqdot's odor elimination technology.

Clariant will use Aqdot’s patented odor-elimination technology for laundry and automatic dishwashing products. The collaboration leverages Aqdot’s new molecule capture technology that eliminates odors and offers a long-lasting fragrance experience through a prolonged fragrance release.

Aqdot’s technology uses cucurbiturils. These barrel-shaped molecules have hollow hydrophobic cavities and polar portals, enabling them to eliminate a broad spectrum of malodor molecules with lasting efficacy. Cucurbiturils also trigger the release of perfume when formulated with fragrance and when malodors arise. Sensory tests proved that the malodor intensity of textiles treated with malodor is significantly reduced when the odor elimination technology is present in the laundry process and that in the presence of malodor-intensive soiling in the dishwasher those malodors can be significantly reduced.

Following the successful formulation development and performance testing, Clariant is commercializing this innovation.

“We are delighted to be further developing our partnership with Clariant to bring our revolutionary odor elimination technology to the home care market,” said Aqdot CEO Tim Wright. “The combination of our proprietary technology with Clariant’s world-class scientific and go-to-market capabilities will create significant value for their customers, and in turn for consumers, through meaningful innovation in these sizeable household product categories.”

According to Christine Oberbillig PhD, global marketing manager for home care at Clariant, this new unique technology has the potential to significantly improve odor elimination in the laundry and automatic dishwashing process.

“We are delighted that our partnership with Aqdot has led to a global exclusive agreement,” said Oberbillig. “We recognize the difficulties that the industry faces with lingering malodors in synthetic clothing and dishwashers, particularly with the shift of consumer behavior toward a more sustainable washing and cleaning.”
