National Rosacea Society Approves First Products with New Seal of Acceptance

Sente, Laura Geller and Skinfix are among the first products to earn the new label, created under the guidance of Dr. Zoe Diana Draelos.

The first skin care products and cosmetics with the National Rosacea Society Seal of Acceptance are now available. NRS announced the new program in June 2023.

Roseacea affects 1 in 20 Americans. In NRS surveys, 92% of rosacea sufferers reported burning, stinging or itching skin; 66% named certain skin care or cosmetic products as triggers for rosacea signs and symptoms; and 84% were “very interested” in more guidance on skin care.

“One of the most common requests the NRS receives from rosacea patients is for information and advice about which skin care and cosmetic products are appropriate to use,” said Andrew Huff, president and executive director of the NRS. “We are pleased to offer this resource to rosacea sufferers by recognizing products that have been shown to be unlikely to cause irritation or a flare-up.”

The Seal of Acceptance program was developed under the guidance of Zoe Diana Draelos, MD, FAAD, a clinical and research dermatologist and president of Dermatology Consulting Services, PLLC. Draelos also serves on the NRS board of directors. Dr. Draelos won the SCC's Florence Wall Award in 2019.

To be considered for the Seal, skin care and cosmetic products must be free of ingredients that cause skin barrier dysfunction, vasomotor instability or unwanted neurosensory stimulation, such as burning or itching.

Each product earning the Seal of Acceptance has gone through clinical testing to determine safety and low risk for irritation and sensitization in people with rosacea skin, says NRS.

Applications were anonymously reviewed by an independent panel of dermatologists.

Senté’s Dermal Repair Cream was the first product to receive the seal, according to the National Rosacea Society.

In the Seal of Acceptance section of rosacea.org, rosacea patients and consumers may find a list of accepted products, including a photo and description of each product and a link to learn more and purchase. The list is searchable and sortable by product category and brand.

New seal recipients will be added on an ongoing basis, according to NRS.
